In Blocklords, story-based “choose your own adventure” moments will appear, where players must pick a response to various events—and face a range of consequences. Blocklords currently uses the Immutable X and Polygon blockchains for its optional NFTs, according to its Epic Games Store page.

The game allows players to explore different environments, harvest resources, craft materials, customize their avatars, engage with others, and trade items for real money on the company’s blockchain. It also features realistic in-game mechanics and economics that mirror real-world marketplaces. With the release on mobile–live on Apple’s App Store and Google’s Play Store, the company aims to expand its user base and bring blockchain-based decentralization to mobile users. The Assassin’s Creed publisher’s advertising pause comes after tech firms like Apple, IBM, and Oracle as well as Hollywood studios like Disney, Paramount, Lionsgate, Comcast, NBCU, and Warner Bros. Discovery stopped running ads on the social media platform due to concerns that antisemitic content is swirling on the site unchecked. While Ubisoft’s exact reason for suspending its Twitter ads has not yet been confirmed, the parade of billion-dollar firms pulling ads from the platform could have certainly influenced the game studio’s decision.

On Thursday, Ubisoft announced via Twitter that it will host a free NFT mint for a series of profile pictures (PFPs) tied to Champions Tactics: Grimoria Chronicles, an upcoming game that’s set to be built on the gaming-centric Oasys blockchain. Users will only need to pay Ethereum network gas fees to mint the NFTs. The Warlords PFPs appear to be designed like pixel heroes from old-school games. According to the official website, the Warlords NFTs will offer early access to holders to mint the eventual in-game Champions figurines, which will also be free.

RW3 Ventures, Sfermion, and 1Up Ventures also participated in the round. Bazooka Tango plans to use the fresh funding to expand its team and further development on its upcoming title, Shardbound, which has committed to launch on the upcoming Immutable zkEVM network. “Amid an incredibly challenging year for VC funding, it speaks volumes to the quality of our games,” said Bazooka Tango CEO Bo Daly in a statement in response to the funding news. “We are focused on expanding our team in critical disciplines essential for launching and growing the Shardbound universe,” Daly added.

In 2022, a staggering 157 blockchain games were “halted” or otherwise stopped development, while another 43 titles were halted in 2023, according to a new Game7 report on the state of the Web3 gaming industry. Game7 is a decentralized community or DAO focused on blockchain gaming adoption. Game7 core contributor George Isichos told Decrypt that the blockchain or “Web3” games that stopped development this year struggled to get financial support and were generally titles that were established before 2021.
